The best way to choose the correct size range is to measure your pet. A dressmaker’s tape measure is the most accurate, but a string can be used and then measured against a ruler, or even against a known length, such as a piece of 8.5” x 11” (standard letter size) paper.

For harnesses, measure around the pet’s chest, behind the front legs, while the pet is standing upright

In all cases, the extra room needed for a comfortable fit can be estimated by taking the actual-inches-around and adding about 5% of that amount to the total.

Example:
If actual inches = 17''
17'' x 5% ( or .05) = .85''
17'' + .85'' = 17.85 inches
So this pet would need a size range that adjusts to about 18 inches.

This method is more accurate than the commonly practiced “ measure and add 2”, therefore resulting in a more comfortable fit for your beloved friend. While 2 inches may be a lot on a Chihuahua, it may not allow enough breathing room for a Mastiff!

Generally speaking, ½'' products are best for Critters weighing up to 20 lbs. ¾” width products fit the widest range of dogs, from smaller Terriers to Labrador retrievers. Order 1” for larger or stronger breeds.
